South West England Championships - 9th February 2020

Team Launceston ventured to Weston Super-Mare to compete in their first competition of 2020. It was a wild wet day travelling to and from Launceston, but 10 students took part in a very busy competition with every category busy.  All the students who took part and represented were amazing, whether you came back with medals or not we are so proud of you all. A massive thanks for Lewis, Kirsty, Claire, and Adam for their support throughout the day.

Mr Bunn spent his day officiating as well as cheering everyone on during his breaks!  THANK YOU, SIR,

Wenna - Girls Yellow Belt Patterns

Wenna entering her second competition gave an excellent display with her performance of Do-San confidently showing all what she’s made of. Cheered on by Duffel the Dog, her trusty mascot for the day.

Minnie - Girls Blue Belt

Patterns: This young technical wizard also entered her second competition.  She put on an amazing performance of Joon-gun in a very difficult category.

Team Patterns: Minnie joined team mate Matilda in their first attempt as a team

Lucy - Ladies Yellow Belt

Patterns: Overcoming nerves from her first competition, Lucy went on and performed Do-San brilliantly scoring an impressive 12 points.

Sparring: Lucy’s first time sparring she stepped onto the mat focused and ready for action.  Coming away with a bronze medal, a great achievement for her first competitive bout.

Matilda - Girls Blue Belt

Four competitions in one event.  The talent from this young lady still astounds us!

Patterns: Matilda showed off her amazing sidekicks, picture proof below, in a large category full of experienced competitors.

Team Patterns: Joining Launceston Team mate Minnie in this very fierce junior competition unfortunately finished just outside the medals.

Middleweight Sparring: Another great effort from this up and coming Tag Team Specialist, she used it as a good warm up for her Tag Team Event.

Tag Team Sparring: Sought out by her previous tag team partners, although a good effort finished 3rd in a 2-medal competition.

Daisy - Girls Yellow Belt

Patterns: This amazing talent goes from strength to strength cruising to a silver medal only beaten by a red belt from WTF joining TAGB as a yellow tag.

Team Patterns:  Entering her first team patterns competition after virtually no practice brought home Launceston’s first ever Team Patterns medal with a brilliant silver.

Darren - Men’s Blue Belt Patterns

Entering his second competition Darren equaled his Southern England Championship achievement with a bronze, showing a great Joon-gun.

John - Men’s Red Belt

Patterns: Displaying a very powerful Toi-Gye John came away with a brilliant silver in patterns after a closely fought gold medal playoff.

Heavyweight Sparring: Bowing out in the first round, john put up a good fight but was out scored by a more accurate opponent.

Eva – Girls Yellow Belt

Patterns: Eva’s first competition. She overcame her nerves and gave an amazing performance displaying her skills and delivery Chon-Ji to a panel of impressed judges taking bronze.

Team Patterns: Along with Daisy and the gold medal winner from her individual patterns group, Eva used her natural talent to contribute towards Launceston’s first Team Patterns medal.

Emma – Girls Blue Belt

Middleweight Sparring: Wow! Emma entered her first sparring competition at blue belt level with what is essentially very little experience.  This determined young competitor held a vastly more experienced opponent to a 4-4 draw until the dying seconds when Emma was sadly beaten by just 1 point.

Kaitlyn – Girls Yellow Belt

At 7 years old and almost 4 feet tall, Kaitlyn was not only the youngest in all of her groups she was the shortest. The fight in this jeja was amazing. Entering her first competition she was very excited to show off all she’d learned.

Patterns:  Demonstrating Do-San as only she knows how, Kaitlyn showed no nerves her first time on the mat.

Pee Wee Sparring: In the face of larger opponents Kaitlyn never backed down and scored some great points in her first outing.

Tag Team Sparring: Entering a Junior Competition as a Pee Wee competitor is a gutsy move. Kaitlyn and her team “The Ninja Kids” faced some very difficult competition. Although coming out on the losing end and feeling very tired was eager to enter her next competition.

Southern England Championships - 5th October 2019

It was a special day as it was a celebration of Grand Master Dew's 50th year in Tae Kwon-Do. All competitors received a certificate commemorating this.

All of our warriors represented Launceston wonderfully. It was the first competition entered by many of our team and they did very well.

Wenna - Girls Yellow Belt Patterns

Wenna, in her first competition was the very first person to perform in today's tournament. This did not faze her at all, it was an awesome display. She was cheered on by all, including her mascot Billy the Beaver!

Minnie - Girls Blue Belt Patterns

Another competitor in her first competition.  Minnie produced a great pattern against a tough and experienced group. A brilliant Yul-Gok from a no doubt future star.

Lucy -  Ladies Yellow Belt Patterns

Another lady in her first competition. Lucy performed exceptionally well, overcoming all her nerves to show the higher grades how Chon-Ji should be done. Finishing just outside the medals, we look forward to her next competition.

Matilda - Girls Blue Belt

Matilda, the star of the day was very busy, competing in 3 separate competitions.

Patterns; A tough category with a lot of well experienced talent. Matilda again finishing just outside the medals.

Middleweight Sparring; Competing against a black tag in her opening bout, Matilda pushed forward and never stopped for the full 90 seconds but was sadly overcome by her opponent.

Tag Team Sparring; Matilda came in to her own with her team mates and breezed into the final. It was a closely fought match with Matilda's team collecting the silver medal. Congratulations to Matilda collecting her first medal.

Daisy - Girls Yellow Belt Patterns

Daisy, entering her second competition. It was a category of a unbelievable high standard. Daisy finished convincingly in third collecting a very well deserved bronze.

Darren - Mens Green Belt Patterns

Darren also in his first competition, performed an excellent Yul-Gok and reached the playoff for 2nd and 3rd place. Darren finished 3rd  collecting the bronze.

John - Mens Red Belt

John, now an experienced campaigner competed in 2 competitions.

Patterns; John's favourite part of any tournament. He produced a standout Toi-Gye to collect the Gold with a great set of marks.

Heavywieght Sparring; It was John's first continuous sparring at a competition. A very close bout which included overtime, John, in a close battle was overcome.

It was an excellent day with a good crop of silverware brought back to Launceston, we should justly be very proud of them all.
A big thank you to Louis and Lorna for their support at the competition.

Welsh Championships - 19th May, 2019

John Titley brought home two bronze medals, Men's Blue Belt Patterns and Men's Sparring Tag Team, while James Hardy achieved a silver medal in the Men's Heavyweight Sparring.

South West Championship - 3rd February 2019

A wonderful day out a the South West championship, our warriors from Launceston represented the club wonderfully today, Leland and Matilda competed in patterns then sparring for their first time, both gave their best, Leland winning his first fight convincingly then came second to a more experienced opponent. Matilda also unfortunately came across a higher grade and succumbed.

John competed in patterns finishing fourth, he made it to the quarter finals before been outpointed by a taller opponent.

Nadine performed her pattern excellently but was not rewarded for a faultless display.
Lowenna sparring with determination and skill, making it to the final where she achieved a brilliant silver only losing by a single point.

Lowenna and Nadine then teamed up together for team sparring, they fought and beat higher grades through to the final, their opponents in the final where higher grades again. This time they where closely beaten but came home with a superb silver medals.

Again well done to all that competed magnificently and the awesome support from Daisy, Chloe, James, Kirsty, and Lewis.
